Natural Light for Jewelry Photography

Camera was a great invention that allows people to capture the moments of real life. However, it's not easy for users to capture the real colors. Factors, such as camera functions, light level of the environment, play important rolls on the photos.  I've struggled a lot in the pass on how to take good photos for jewelry, and experimented on different light settings.

Eventually I realized that natural light is the best and below I am going to share a few tips with you from my jewelry photo taking experience. 

1. Get close to the window. Use natural daylight

My home photo studio setup is very simple. My light source is from the window of my bedroom. I use the back of a chair to raise the supporting surface to be the same level as the windowsill, and cover it with a piece of white board. Also, I put another piece of white board as the background, which helps to bounce the light to the jewelry. That's it!

2. Adjust the position of the jewelry to catch the light

Since the light source is still, I simply adjust the position of the jewelry to face the light, so that the light can spark through the stones. 

3. Have fun and enjoy

I use a bowl or a flower vase as the background. The different compositions make interesting shots.

Handy Tips for Staying Healthy

I am sick since Wednesday and the flu hit me real bad. I hate getting sick. It just drains out all my energy and I can't focus on working on anything. I hope everyone takes good care of yourself and you family and stay away from the flue. 

Here's the Handy Tips I received from Kaiser for staying healthy

1. Wash your hands often. 
2. Use hand sanitizer. 
3. Keep your face hands-free. 
4. Get your flu vaccine. 

If you get sick, be kind to yourself and others

1. Stay home and rest. 
2. Drink lots of fluids. 
3. Treat your aches and fever. Acetaminophen (such as Tylenol) or ibuprofen (such as Advil) can help provide relief. Be sure to follow the instructions on the label.
4. Cover your sneeze or cough. 

I hope my fiance (who I got the flu from) and myself will get better soon before the weekend comes. And I hope everybody stays healthy!

A Little Tip of Round Pearl:
After 2 years the average size of round pearls would be around 5mm under most conditions. After 3-3.5 years the crop will be in the 7-8mm average range, which is the most commonly harvested size. For most round pearls, the most popular size resides somewhere between 7mm and 7.5mm. If you really have a soft spot for big pearls, keep in mind that anything above 8mm is considered to be “high end.”

Creamy Milkshake | Leather Purse

A cup of creamy milkshake - cool and refreshing. Who would refuse it? The design of this purse is really unique and interesting. I folded the leather at the bottom of the purse to add volume for storage and support.  The handles were again made of 9-oz veg tanned leather. The handles were hand-stitched by wrapping them by the leather, which formed the round shape of the purse. Inside the purse there are one zipper pocket and two open pocket for extra storage and organization of your belongings. Finally, I made a tag hanging on one side, which added the highlight to the purse.

Here are five different clutch boxes with the same theme - vintage design. Each box is wrapped both inside and outside. The size of the box is not big but it was really time consuming to finish it step by step. After trying a few measurements, I finally got the right size of fabric on the sides of the opening. All inner fabric uses Japanese Yuma. The bow opening on the top contains over 50 little sparky rhinestone.  The chain can be removed. Great for party as well.
